Sleipnir 4 for Windows 4.0.1 released

Sleipnir 4 for Windows リリース!

Today, Sleipnir 4.0.1 and Sleipnir 2.9.16 were released.

In Sleipnir 4.0.1, we have fixed reported issues since the last release and reported bugs that we have been able to reproduce here.

・Install Sleipnir 4 for Windows

In Sleipnir 2.9.16, we have made minor adjustments regarding the Sleipnir actions becoming unstable and freezing issue occurring when memory usage increases, and we have also set counter-measures for dealing with a freeze error on certain pages(Sankei MSN) when Internet Explorer is installed.

Sankei MSN freezing when using IE10 + Trident engine

After receiving reports of this issue we conducted an investigation and tested for the issue and found that the number of Web browsers using IE components are also experiencing this issue and also discovered that the issue will also occur in Internet Explorer 10 when following a specific procedure of which users are also reporting. Immediately after confirming the issue, we reported the issue to Microsoft and MSN Japan. We have provided a counter-measure within Sleipnir 2.9.16, and also provided the same for Sleipnir 4 when using the Trident engine.

To deal with issues like this, Sleipnir 4 uses both WebKit and Trident engines. Please make use of the WebKit engine implemented in Sleipnir 4.

Trident engine users in Sleipnir 2 and Sleipnir 4, please try out the WebKit engine in Sleipnir 4. (Combined usage of Sleipnir 2 and Sleipnir 4 is possible)

For when performance is subpar when using IE10 + Trident engine

Apart from the above issue, reports of crashing, freezing and slow loading on multiple sites have been reported. The detailed reasons for this are still unclear, but you may be able to fix the issue with the following procedure.

1. Close Sleipnir.
2. Select Control Panel>Internet Options.
3. Click “Delete…” on the General tab.
4. Select “Temporary internet files” and “History” and then start.
5. Next, click on “Settings” from browsing history on the general tab.
6. Make sure that the value in “Disk space to use” is within the recommended range. Personally, I think that as long as your connection is not extremely slow, 50MB is the optimum size for the Trident engine.
7. Next, click on “Reset” in Reset Internet Explorer settings of the Advanced tab.
8. Execute reset with the check of “Delete personal settings” OFF.

Using the above procedure has helped users many times.

Regarding the Blink engine

There has been a flux of users on the Web asking “what is going to happen to Sleipnir 4 for Windows?“.

There has been a lot of activity revolving around the rendering engine of Chromium which is used in Sleipnir 4 being changed to the Blink engine. Because the Blink project is still in early stages and there not being enough information to make any decisions on, we will investigate the matter when there is enough information available, and if there are no fatal long-term issues then we will work on implementing it.
